WHY THE ARCTIC?

Because this is our opportunity to save something that is still pristine.

The Arctic is a true wilderness, with incredible wildlife, expansive landscapes and thriving ecosystems.

But rising temperatures are changing the Arctic faster than anywhere on earth.

Melting ice cover not only threatens wildlife, habitat and native communities, it affects all of us.

The Arctic is our early warning system.

TROUBLING FACTS

Arctic ice cover is shrinking, and by 2050 it will leave one of the world’s major ocean basins almost completely ice-free in summer.

A piece of ice 4 times bigger than Manhattan broke off Greenland’s Petermann Glacier in 2010.

Sea ice supports everything from polar bears to plankton, which forms the base of the Arctic food web.

NO TIME LIKE NOW

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us to effect positive change. The factors changing the Arctic are well documented. Rarely is it so clear what needs to be done. Rarely is it so obvious how each of us can help. Get involved.

THOUGHTS FROM A FILMMAKER

“As filmmakers and photographers, as storytellers, as grandparents, mothers and fathers, we don’t want to tell our children about this realm of ice at the top of our world by starting with the words ‘Once upon a time…”
